What is latex?

Latex is a natural substance obtained from the sap of the rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis). This sap is collected through a process called "tapping", which consists of making incisions in the bark of the tree to allow the sap to flow out.

Once collected, the sap is processed to create latex foam, which is the main material in our mattresses.

Latex can be natural, synthetic, or a combination of the two.

Natural latex is prized for its elasticity, strength, and hypoallergenic properties.

The manufacturing process for latex mattresses can vary, but the two most common methods are: the Dunlop process and the Talalay process.

  • With the Dunlop process, the latex foam is poured into the mold in a single step, and then vulcanized.
    This method produces a denser, more robust latex, ideal for those looking for firmer support.
  • With the Talalay process, on the other hand, the latex foam is poured into the mold in multiple steps, with a freezing step between each pour, followed by vulcanization.
    The result is a lighter, more aerated latex foam with a uniform consistency.
